Your generous donations help us provide care for sugar gliders in need. Every dollar goes towards food, shelter, and medical care for these adorable pets. Join us in making a difference and ensuring they receive the love and support they deserve.
At Sugar Haven Rescue, we provide dedicated care and education for sugar gliders and their owners. Our mission is to break the cycle of misinformation and ensure these unique animals receive the proper care and understanding they deserve.
Leah is a true hero in the world of sugar glider rescue, a powerhouse of love, care, and unwavering dedication. After escaping an abusive 8 year relationship, she found a new purpose in rescuing and caring for gliders, and she hasn’t looked back. For Leah, it’s not just a passion, it’s her life’s work.
Her experience as a glider owner started in 2018, but started taking in rescues in 2020. By the following year, in 2021, Sugar Haven Rescue had been born. Leah has built an incredible sanctuary for over 60 gliders across 20+ cages. Yes, you read that right—she cares for 60+ gliders daily! But that’s only the beginning. In 2024, Leah’s mission expanded when her rescue became a 501c3 Nonprofit, supported by a passionate team working together to provide the best care possible.
Leah’s heart is as big as her commitment. Every glider, regardless of the time spent with them, holds a piece of her heart. She grieves their loss and celebrates their triumphs as though they were her own family.
But Leah is more than a rescuer. She’s the voice for the voiceless. When a glider is found in an abusive situation, she doesn’t hesitate to take action, from contacting authorities to going public to ensure their rights are defended. Her passion for justice and commitment to protecting these innocent animals is unwavering.
Leah also runs a mentoring program within the rescue, helping future glider owners prepare for adoption and offering ongoing support afterward. She ensures that both gliders and their new families are set up for success, beyond adoption. Her work extends beyond rescue. Leah hosts in-person events across Massachusetts, offering glider education sessions and nail trimming services to keep these creatures healthy and happy.
From traveling across the northeastern U.S. for nail trims to developing programs to support adopters, Leah has created a network of care that extends far beyond traditional rescue. She’s a guiding light in the glider community, an unwavering advocate and someone who truly makes a difference.
Leah is committed to doing her best for every glider and every glider owner that reaches out, whether in a crisis or simply seeking advice. Her journey isn’t just about saving lives—it’s about educating and empowering others to care for gliders in the best way possible. Leah is not just a rescuer; she’s the heartbeat and voice of the glider world.
Christina
Leah's #1 and right-hand woman, Christina is the mom of the pack, ensuring that Leah stays on track and that everything gets done. She's quickly becoming the rescue's #2 location, despite her husband's protests, and is responsible for fostering all our chunky and hospice gliders.
Briana
A newbie to the glider world but an essential team member, Briana has stepped up in ways beyond expectations. In just six months of owning gliders, she’s tackled a tail amputation, a rejected joey, and several other hardship cases. Briana is fostering multiple cages in addition to the ones she’s adopted and is well on her way to becoming the rescue's #3 location. She also runs our auctions, handles contracts, and supports all clerical needs.
Melissa
Our veterinary liaison, Melissa is in charge of compiling and mapping out vet offices that handle glider cases across the U.S. She’s also becoming our go-to for tech support, having built our website, set up our Discord server, and assists tech guru John in creating a custom application for daily rescue operations.
Jalyn
The spunky kid of the group, Jalyn has a fiery passion for animal rights. She is the primary point of contact for foster parents and ensures that monthly check-ins are made to confirm that all gliders in foster care receive top-notch care.
Kylee
A creative powerhouse, Kylee runs our social media, online stores, and photo contests. If you’ve ever seen one of our designs and thought, "OMG I love that!", you’ve got Kylee’s creative brain to thank.
John
A foster and tech guru, John is building a custom app from the ground up to streamline the rescue’s day-to-day operations. His coding skills, kind heart, and passion for animals make him an irreplaceable part of the team.
Mike
A recent addition to the team, he’s already become our go-to problem-solver. Whether it’s fixing broken hyperlinks or saving us from a Google Form disaster, non-techies can rejoice – Mike's got your back!
Renee
With a heart of gold and a smile that never quits, she’s always ready to help out. As our coordinator for community outreach and events, Renee is the one who keeps everything running smoothly. Keep a look out for the big things she's got planned for us in the coming year!
Toy & Sewing Safety Team
Jacey, Krissy, Denise, & Daisha – these four are the safety experts, making sure every stitch and toy is up to standard. They mentor and guide everyone who is willing to learn.
Case Manager Team
Dani, Krissy, Denise & Briana – the dream team, supporting and guiding our foster and adoption applicants every step of the way. We truly could not do this without you.
And let’s not forget the incredible work that the abundant number of mentors do. They dedicate themselves to helping prepare and guide glider parents to be the very best that they can. We appreciate the hours you've spent educating and bettering the glider community.
